Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

I love the world in this series. She does such a great job! This is the final book in the grisha trilogy and I have really enjoyed this so far.
So far I'm on chapter 6.
---

The Book and series as a whole was really good. I look forward to reading the next set by her and also anything new that comes out.  On the side note here I did read a novella through my library that waa a back somtory on the darkling. It was interesting (Demon in the woods).

It's been a minute since I had read this so I will have to update it another time.

The First City by Joe Hart *contains spoilers *

So in these first few chapters it turns out that zoey has a baby in the place she escaped from and they are using it to coax her to come back.
Eli has died from a gunshot wound after he tells zoey the story of him and his wife. Which was also sad. And at this point zoey seems to have taken off with nothing but a small note. When they launched that missile to land on the facility and the helicopter didn't get out of the way in time, that was intense..
~~
To find out that the baby is really hers and Lee's  and that the female leader of the NOA is Zoeys mom.. I couldnt believe it. And then there was a second baby... they all made it out because of the guy that I think was her mom's lover..

As a whole trilogy I liked it
Thanks for reading

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I'm just about to finish this book up and it's been so intense.
The trials, the characters and the world building. I will need a break before book two and read something fluffy but at this point i would have to say I'm going to give it a 5/5 star rating. Granted I have 40 pages or so left but it's been really good.
More of an update later

Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard *contains spoilers *

The beginning of this book was really slow. It goes back and forth so far with Mare and Cameron on who is telling the story. Mare is being held prisoner but it doesn't look like it because she has silent stone bracelets and on her ankles that is covered by elegant clothes gifted by Maven. She also stays somewhat in his chambers and sees and notes alot of the history that is of past royalties. Noting also that maven and cals mom is nowhere to be remembered by. She is somehow able to get ahold of some journals that belonged to Julian. More history and observations that she is picking up. She's not sure how they got there or why because the books that were on the shelves previously, she had literally destroyed and ripped to pieces..
Once I got to chapter 9 it just completely picked up and before I knew it is was to ch 13. Which is my current status. I will update after I read more.
~~~~~~~
Mare had been trapped for about 6 months before she was released and I was so shocked to not only see her released but also who released her. Lovely evangaline ☆ right during the raid that happens at the wedding between maven and the Lakeland princess.
Mare reunites with her family except Shade.
I think Farley is about to have her baby, and its sad because shade is the dad and he isn't going to be there.
Right now alot of unsure issue with kingdoms and who's allies with who because nobody knows who to trust.
~~~~~~~~~
The last few chapters were intense. The battle, the choice that cal has to make and marrying evangaline for the peace of the houses but in turn mare has to make in if she wants to have a life at royalty or keep as she has been just without cal..... and she walks away.. EEEEEEE!!!!! the next book is so far away lol.

Diabolic by S.J Kincaid *contains spoilers *

The process the diabolic has gone through from the corral to being bonded with this child is interesting..I'm only on chapter 2 so will see how it goes..
~~~~~
Just into chapter 6 I believe and the diabolic has been told by the girls' mom (can't remember names) that it is to train and pretend to be the girl when she is due to go in front of someone really important who at this time I can't remember the title (i will have to freshen up the names when I pick it up again).
So that's the plan..
~~~~
Just about to start chapter 15. At this point so far Nemisis has pulled off being Sidonia pretty well as nobody has caught onto her aside from possibly the diabolics that the emperor keeps for personal benefit. The diabolic is supposed to be banned and destroyed (except for his). Nemisis is still around because the girls parents hid it away ..if i remember right.
With trying to fit in as humanly possible she buys a creature for the fighting ring. When she goes to see it with a "friend" aka ally.. she realizes it is how she begin this life before her bonding with Sidonia.

~~~~~~
Um...wow...!!!! The emperor had the planet that Sidonia and her family is from, destroyed. And nemisis is out for revenge. Apparently the crazy nephew of the emperor is wanting to be allies with nemisis and suggested marriage...did not see that coming....
~~~~
Nemisis is having feelings for Tyrus that she wasn't manufactured to feel or understand. She loves him and cares about him. When another twist happens with Sidonia not really being dead, now she has to figure out what to do next.
Tyrus grandmother is going to be interesting in seeing how this pans out with him and Elantra.
~~~~~~~~
I really enjoyed this book. It has saucy betrayal with unexpected love story. Well written and eager for the next book to come out.
4/5☆
Sneaky Snow White by Anita Valle
Siege and storm by Leigh Bardugo *contains spoilers *
Im really enjoying this book. Its the second book in the grisha trilogy.
Reading them back to back has blended them for me a little but having been caught again by the darkling and he sets across the fold looking for the second amplifier from the sea whip to go with the one from the stag. Stormhund was working against the darkling all along and took Alina and Mal back to Ravka to try and help say the city and get the throne back. Stormhund qas in disguise as a captain but really is the prince to ravka and wants the throne instead of his brother having it. So they are trying to find a way to get him to step down.
~~~~~
So much has happened all at once at the end im trying to wrap my head around it.
Nicoklai and alina were working together to try and get the third amplifier.. his brother Vasily  (sp) walked into a trap and the darklong found the little palace and raided them. Not sure at this point how many made it or died.. mal made it and alina but she tried to kill the darkling and the connection which would have killed her too but mal stopped her and they (her, him, and the twins) ran to the tunnels. Where the apparate (sp) has a seceret cave place they are hiding out in.. the end. Lol til book three. But she lost her powers and she is out for revenge.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber *contains spoilers*

I havent actually finished this book at this point of my writing this blog but i will definitely make sure to update it as i go and once im finished. This is just easier for me to keep track of events.
This book is so much more magical then i had imagined it to be. When it had comparison to night circus by Erin Morgenstern, i totally agree. However it does have a different feel. At this point i can honestly say as much as i LOVE the night circus, im loving caraval more.
The way things are described in certain colors or foods, the little tiny animals that float around by trees.
Nevermind the game. Whats real and what's not. Her search for donatella (tella) is such a whimsical experience. The clues seem to be reaching out to Scarlet. Her unexpected game companion calls her "crimson" and the luck she has in this game with him... and how nobody has ever seen the Legend.. im throwing out there that Julian (the unexpected companion) is legend in disguise.. its just a feeling i get from his behavior. I could obviously be very wrong.
I have about 150 pages left to see what happens and how it comes together.

~~~~~~~~~
Update
~~~~~~~~

I was heartbroken when both julian and tella died. And happy to read it wasnt permanent. To find out that both tella and julian were working with Legend was not something i expected. And i was thinking that julian was legend but its actually his brother.. the letter at the end saying she would see her mom soon .. man... this book was all sorts of magic and crazy in a fun and pleasant way. Loved it!!

Thanks for reading

Shadow and bone by Leigh Bardugo *contains spoilers*

I loved this book. I felt for her when she felt like she couldn't call her powers and the trial of errors she always seemes to be having. When she was finally able to let things go and call to it i was happy for her. Her whole life changed and she was happy and having feelings for the darkling. She kept doing good as long as she didn't let her vision of either Mal or the Darkling cloud it. When the plot changed and she was told he was using her for evil instead of good, when mal rescued her, made it all the way to finding the stag that was mutually being hunted by Mal and Alina, as well as the Darkling.. being caught and captured.. the volcra.. then how she saved Mal from all that in the moment and being on the run again. She had found away to control her powers that the darkling wasnt expecting and im so excited to read what happens next in the trilogy. ♡
Loved this book and recommend it for those who liked red queen books by Victoria Aveyard.

A girl in pieces by Kathleen Glasskow *contains trigger warnings and spoilers*

On Trigger Warnings: abuse, rape, homelessness, self harm, eating disorder

So far she has left her care center that she was in because she tried to kill herself. It has insinuated that she has been raped or at least sexually assaulted. Now that she is out, she isnt staying with her mom because they have an unhealthy relationship. But her mom gave her some money that i cant remember where it came from but im reasonably sure that charlie and her friend ellis had been saving it up. Ellis has ended up brain dead and cant use it for what it waa saved for which i cant remember. Or why shes brain dead..
Charlie has gotten a job and used that moved saved up to get her a run down apt.. thats as far as im at right now.
Im not sure that her boss riley is a good person to have in her life because he seems like an addict of some sort and hes not a nice addict.
~~~~~~
Im having a hard time staying with this book.. its not the trigger warnings its likes its really being super dragged out....
Oh and it turns out that Mikey ansld Riley know each other...weird....
~~~~~~
I decided to DNF it. I was struggling too much to try and get through it over reasons I'm not really sure. It's not a bad book, it does have triggers, but it's just taking too long to get anywhere imo.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff *contains spoilers*

This story had started kinda slow to me but interesting enough to keep me reading. The story building and characters were good I thought. I thought the style of mixed media was also interesting. Classified files, emails, instant messages, etc. Kady and Ezra having been in a relationship and broken up before being taken and if i read and remember right they were on separate ships. I understand it while reading it, however trying to explain it and spelling the names is kinda hard to do.
This is like an apocalyptic space novel. People get an airborn sickness that was released through the airvents on purpose by a company calles biotech. Kady was able to preserve to the end and ready to die for the sake of others and aiden actually helped her to escape last minute. Had a pod not headed toward her looking for survivors then she would have died because her suit only had 2 hours left of oxygen and she would have died in a short time from no treatment to radiation she was exposed to from the nuclear blasts from the Lincoln.
She thought everyone had lost their lives including ezra, til she got to the H ship safe and sick in quartine. It wasn't very fast paced til over halfway through when it finally picked up. It was kinda hard to read sometimes.
Undecided on if i will read the next book or finish the trilogy/series...
Thanks for reading

Girl mans up (audiobook) *contains spoilers*

This story has an LGBTQ+ main character, and contains trigger words/situations. I want to add this is was the first EVER audiobook i had finished and was pretty happy about it. I have no lie, spent the last six hours binge listening.
Penelope discribes life as a high school student in her town. A LGBTQ+ teen, in a catholic private school. The friends she has, family drama, and the girl she falls in love with.
I thought it was messed up how her friend colby acts about things from the get go. Using her to get girls for him because he thinks she is more approachable being a girl. I love the friendship that turns into a relationship with blake. I loved how compassionate and loyal she was to olivia as she dealt with thw pregnancy. I dont agree or condone to abortion but it is something that happens and this covered it lightly enough to not encourage or defend and still brought some light to the fact that it does happen and what social and personal feelings might lead one to that decision.
Johnny aka jwow is an awesome big brother and is so understanding and supportive of Pen. In all aspects that a big brother should be. So much so i was almost envious.
I really liked the way that olivia stuck her revenge in a way that didnt bring extra drama, that didnt send a bad message (even though their one plan wasnt really vicious anyways).
And it was all in all a well rounded story.
I dont really have much more to say about it at the moment but it was definitely a decent read.
Thanks for reading.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer *contains spoilers *

I liked how the story was laid out, it was almost too slow but enough things happend through out the book that it kept it interesting. I do imagine that if the queen of hearts had a back story that this would be how it happened. I think it would be beneficial for me to read more alice in wonderland books and im hoping she does write more back stories / retelling on more characters.
This having been my first book by this author i am eager to see what her other retelling stories are like.
Thanks for reading~
~~~~~added on~~~~~
I think her parents are ridiculous for trying to force her hand in one moment. To turn around when everything falls apart and says they just wanted her to be happy when all along they just wanted to keep and save reputation. To have her dreams of being a baker and the love of her life torn away from her like that, despite the warning she qas given by the sisters.. i imaginetm peter felt the same way about his wife when that situation all around was different but still sad. I felt for him even though i still felt like he was weird and kinda crazy.
I understand where Maryann was trying to be concerned for catherines wellbeing but i also felt like there was some unnecessary betrayal.
These are the only thoughts i have for now but will reflect more and add if need be.
Thanks for reading.
The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
How daniel and natasha meet is so cute. The events that lead to that and the time they spent together and how it ends.. amazing.
The two different families and the views.. the epilogue really tugged my heart though. I was so glad i read that.
Really an awesome book and i dont want to put any spoilers. I recommend this book if you like books about fate and fluffy but heart felt reads.
Thanks for reading.
My reading goals for 2017
Later Gator by Jana DeLeon
This installment to this series is, as usual, funny and so much fun to read. I have been stuck on this series since I picked it up 2 years ago. I don't want to give anything away so I won't say much about this book other then it's a series I recommend and a lot of page turning fun.
I always get a kick out of the trio. Fortune, Ida Belle and good ol' Gertie.
The way that those ladies get in and out of trouble is hilarious and i know everytime i read one of the books in this series, that i will always enjoy the adventure...
